Promoting the livestock market system
The Institute is a passionate advocate for the livestock market system, and want to widen awareness of its crucial role. We actively promote it as the only transparent way to secure the best price and guaranteed payment for everyone playing their part in the rural economy. We are committed to developing and improving the system to the benefit of individual markets, our members, by encouraging an efficient conduct of business within all markets contributing to increased throughput and turnover.
Influencing policy to benefit the rural economy
The Institute is committed to working with politicians, governments and others to influence regulations so that they strengthen Scotland’s farming industry. As the leading body speaking on behalf of valuers and auctioneers in Scotland we seek to further the interests of the rural economy by arguing for regulation that is workable and effective and opposing those which impose unnecessary burdens on our members and the wider farming industry. The Institute will ensure specialist representation in negotiations with government, public bodies and all relevant stakeholders to advocate for the value of the market system.
Achieving recognition for our members
The Institute has a direct relationship with more farmers than any other interest group. We will proactively promote their achievements, and speak out on their behalf on the many challenges they face. Working with others, we aim to create a unified voice which furthers the aims of the wider rural economy.
Informing on latest price data and trends
The Institute collates and makes available the latest information on prices achieved across Scotland’s markets, providing a critical real-time insight into the agricultural economy. We endorse the auction system as somewhere farmers can access the professional advice and support needed to achieve best value for both buyer and seller while recognising the auctioneer as a key commentator on market trends and requirements.
Educating the next generation of auctioneers
The Institute has invested in its education and examination structure to nurture the talent and skill of new, up-and-coming auctioneers and valuers. Working in partnership with education establishments and others we have developed courses to ensure the profession is recognised as a credible career path.
Bringing together the farming community
The Institute promotes the value of markets in their role as an indispensable social hub for farmers and farming communities. We promote the positive aspects of markets to farmers and others working in rural isolation, and seize the opportunity provided by bringing them together to deliver formal and informal support and valued relevant services.
